Overview:

The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act of 2003 has been a 'pain' to executives, compliance officers, auditors, accountants, and boards. It has been a 'comfort' to shareholders, employees, and creditors. Privately-held companies would be wise to take advantage of the provisions. Nonprofits should prepare for a SOX 'sequel' in their governance.
