Those organizations that contract for external coaches benefit to a greater degree than those that train internal staff in coaching skills. Why? An external coach does not have responsibility, accountability or authority to either the person being coached or to the organization.
Effective coaching requires the freedom of full self-expression in order to explore options, test assumptions and acquire practice and feedback without prejudice. As coaching becomes more widespread, leadership development programs that include a coaching component will become preferred.
